The Role
Proofpoint is looking for a Junior Data Scientist to join our Machine Learning team. You will build and maintain the software systems and tools that support our email threat detection engine, which protects some of the largest enterprises globally.
You will work closely with senior engineers and data scientists, contributing to real products from day one while growing your skills in a fast-paced, high-impact environment.

What you'll do:
- Build and maintain backend services, APIs, and internal tools that support the team's workflows
- Write clean, well-tested, and documented code
- Contribute to data processing utilities and automation scripts
- Debug and resolve issues in existing systems
- Participate in code reviews and apply feedback from senior engineers
- Collaborate with engineers and data scientists to understand requirements and deliver reliable software
- Support service deployment and monitoring in AWS
What We're Looking For
- A degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related field (or equivalent practical experience)
- Strong programming fundamentals in Python
- Familiarity with core software engineering concepts: data structures, algorithms, REST APIs, and Git
- Basic knowledge of SQL and working with structured data
- Familiarity with AWS is a plus
- A collaborative mindset and genuine desire to learn
- Openness to feedback and strong communication skills
